Exposure Assessments

Taking samples is easy — with an equipment manual and a call to the lab to find out what filter or sorbent tube to use — anyone can do it!! But “Industrial Hygiene” encompasses so much more than just “hanging a pump.” The hard part — the activity that requires expertise and experience — is designing the sampling strategy, assessing work practices and interpreting the sample results.

Experience also allows for recognition of situations that do not require air samples. Some well-known and frequently performed processes appear to generate exposure but, due to the physical state of the contaminant or the quantity in use, do not result in exposures of concern.

All work performed by Bessa & Associates is conducted or directly supervised by Sharon Bessa Morey, a CIH with over 20 years of experience in a wide variety of workplace environments.

Even the experienced, conscientious industrial hygienist does the dumb thing occasionally (putting the tube on backwards) but there are errors that occur due to inexperience or from cost cutting that can result in missing a significant exposure.
